20 Things You Somehow Missed In The Truman Show

18. All The Radio Music Is Classical Because It's Royalty-Free

You might've noticed that all of the music on Seahaven's radio stations is classical, which beyond helping keep Truman calm and pacified as he goes about his day, has another altogether more practical purpose for the show's producers.

Almost all classical music is in the public domain, and therefore royalties don't need to be paid to the estates of the artists, nor do legal clearances need to be secured, as there would be with pop music.

And so, the producers were free to have their pick of the tunes without getting into the muddy legal waters of paying up for contemporary songs, which given The Truman Show's status as the world's most popular TV show would surely cost a pretty penny.

The depressing flip-side of this, of course, is that Truman has never heard all the wonderful non-classical music the world has to offer.
