20 Times Directors You Trust Totally Let You Down

The Director:

While more a producer and innovator than a director, George Lucas did make two very well-received films early and is, of course, the creator of Star Wars. He's currently the richest director in the world.

The Film:

The Phantom Menace isn't terrible, but it remains the worst Star Wars film to date.

There was an easy fix to the Star Wars Prequels, but no-one saw it. George Lucas is a terrible writer of dialogue, and he knows this perfectly well. If he'd just directed and done the story - but let someone else write the dialogue, things would've worked out better.

George Lucas' massively anticipated prequel implied he understands his own franchise very little. It may boast some memorable characters and great scenes, but the film's wooden dialogue, excess of dull politics and cringe-worthy aliens deviate far away from what made the world fall in love with Star Wars to begin with.

As for George Lucas' direction, he really seemed to have lost his way in the twenty years since A New Hope. His visuals in the film mainly consist of flat, CGI-ridden wide shots, and he displays none of the visual flair the recent Star Wars films have.

Has He Bounced Back?

Not really. Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith were better, but neither was great. He probably won't direct again.
