20 Most Underrated Movies In The IMDb Top 250

2. Barry Lyndon

The second "underrated" Kubrick film to make our list? Why, it's Barry Lyndon, of course, which - despite its rankings within the IMDb Top 250 - is often lambasted as one of the director's worst films. And yet this epic adaptation, based on the novel by one William Makepeace Thackeray, happens to be one of the most visually stunning motion pictures of all-time - indeed, Kubrick even chose to shoot it authentically to the time period. Barry Lyndon, which follows the rogue-ish character of the title as he attempts to make something of himself in the 18th century, was met with mixed reviews upon first release, but has since been reconsidered as a masterpiece of sorts in recent years. Lyndon's legacy still remains somewhat tainted - a side effect of its original reception and its standing as a historical epic. Bombastic as it is in places, it's remains a cinematic revelation.
