20 Underrated Movies You Have To See
19. The Italian Job (2003)
One of the best movie remakes ever put to film, 2003's The Italian Job remains criminally underrated. Directed by Fast and Furious director F. Gary Gray and sporting an all star cast led by Mark Wahlberg, Ed Norton, Charlize Theron, Jason Statham and Seth Green, the modern day re-telling of the 1969 classic is a genuinely compelling action film.
Full of fantastic chase sequences, hilarious anecdotes courtesy of the irreplaceable Seth Green, and a strong villain courtesy of Ed Norton, this is one of the early noughties' most under-appreciated hidden gems.
Taking the original formula and twisting it into a modern day scenario, it follows Charlie Croker (Wahlberg) and his team as they plot a daring heist in hopes of getting revenge of the man who betrayed them years ago (Norton). A simple if predictable plot, The Italian Job elevates itself slightly beyond "generic action flick" thanks to some stylish car chases, easy cast chemistry and engaging twists.
If you want to see what happens when a remake succeeds, you need look no further than this.
