20 Useless Things You Probably Never Knew About Star Wars
5. Lando's Kenyan Co-Pilot
Nien Nunb speaks a very real Kenyan language throughout the course of his appearance in Return of the Jedi. The language is called Kikuyu (featuring a smattering of Kalenjin) and is something you, I or anyone else can learn.
Kipsang Rotich is the man who voiced Nunb in Return of the Jedi and he was a Kenyan student who simply opted to speak in his mother tongue - the Sullustan could've ended up speaking basic (English) if not for him.
As if including the Kenyan language wasn't awesome enough, Lupita N'yongo (Maz Kanata, Force Awakens) has been quoted as saying she felt the inclusion of Kiyuku really helped her to connect to the Star Wars series when she first saw Return of the Jedi.
Who'd have known some 34 years after the release of ROTJ, N'yongo would be starring in the film's sequel?
