6. A Bridge Too Far

Sean Connery in A Bridge Too Far
United Artists

Directed by John Hammond himself Richard Attenborough, A Bridge Too Far is a far cry from the director's debut Oh! What a Lovely War.

This 1977 war drama follows an all star cast including Sean Connery, Robert Redford, James Caan, and a young Michael Caine as a crack team of Allied soldiers attempting a daring and unfortunately doomed mission that if successful could prove the death knell for Nazi forces.

Intense and stirring, this drama benefits from a stellar screenplay by Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid scribe William Goldman who ensures proceedings are balanced between tension, tragedy, and moments of levity.
