Writer/director Oliver Stone actually fought in the Vietnam War, marking this particular war flick as both intimate and personal. Indeed, Stone set out to make a film about his own troubled experiences. Charlie Sheen stars as teenager Chris in what is perhaps his best filmic performance; Willem DaFoe is wonderful as a veteran solider.
Sam Hill is an ardent cinephile and has been writing about film professionally since 2008. He harbours a particular fondness for western and sci-fi movies.
