20 Weird and Wonderful Performances As The Devil

3. Juliette Caton - The Last Temptation of Christ (1988)

In the controversial Last Temptation of Christ, a young girl (Juliette Caton) appears to Jesus (William Dafoe) claiming to be an angel. The angel removes Jesus from the cross and tells him he is not the Messiah - he is free to go and live his life. Jesus then marries Mary Magdalene (Barbara Hershey) and settles into a normal life. The kindly presence of Caton throughout his life prolongs Jesus' inevitable realization that he is the Messiah and must return to die on the cross. Interestingly, Harvey Keitel, who plays Satan in the Adam Sandler bomb Little Nicky and plays Judas in The Last Temptation of Christ, plays the voice of Satan when he appears to Jesus as a lion. Weird or Wonderful? - Weird. Any time you use a little girl as Beelzebub, it's weird.

2. Malcolm McDowell - Suing the Devil (2011)

Luke O'Brien, a law student, brings a lawsuit against Satan for $8 trillion dollars. Satan decides to show up and defend himself using a team of crack trial lawyers. I didn't like this movie much. I tend to despise movies where they modernize traditional monsters such as vampires and Satan. To me it seems more like pandering or using a gimmick in place of a real plot. Exceptions do occur, of course. Anyway, despite my not liking this movie, I have to give some credit to Malcolm McDowell. He's not one of my favorites, but he always brings some sort of weird quality to every role he plays, and Satan is no different. Weird or Wonderful? - Weird. I can understand why they went this route with Lucifer, but it was still weird. And so is Malcolm McDowell.
