19. The Ten Commandments Parts The Sea

Biblical epics tend to be used solely as material for parody these days (or else they're Noah and, well), but back in the Golden Age of Hollywood, they produced some of the biggest blockbusters in cinema history. Part of those huge box office receipts were down to the amazing, ground breaking visual treats they offered audiences, like Moses parting the Red Sea in the Ten Commandments. It looks a little hokey now, but it's a neat trick - like Inception, director Cecil B DeMille actually filmed tonnes of water crashing into a tank on the Paramount lot, reversed it, and composited it into the finished film.
