Red River is pretty much perfect, save for its miscalculated ending - but even the ill-judged nature of its final moments can't bring this movie down. Howard Hawks directs, whilst John Wayne and Montgomery Clift star as a father and adopted son who attempt the first cattle drive and begin to find themselves at odds with one another.
