20 Worst Movie Performances Of The Decade

13. Nicolas Cage As Kyle Miller - Trespass

Nicolas Cage is still capable of turning in strong performances, but he rarely bothers anymore. Those performances where he loses it and screams like a demented banshee are occasionally amusing but more often than not they're just a sad spectacle of an actor who doesn't seem to appreciate how talented he actually is.

Trespass was a particularly bad example of this. It was a year after his return-to-form in Kick-Ass, so seeing Nicolas Cage screeching his way through this movie without a hint of self-awareness in an utterly embarassing, desperately awful performance was just a bit depressing more than anything else.

Trespass is a worthless excuse for a thriller and no actor could realistically have elevated it beyond the one-star level, but Cage's decision to completely over-act (most likely in the hope that this movie would be entertaining) was a miscalculation. Thanks to this nonsensical hamminess, this otherwise-straight faced film is simply impossible to take seriously, so Cage brings it down even further.
