20 Worst Movies Of 2016
19. The Disappointments Room
At some point, not even that long ago, Kate Beckinsale was considered a fairly top level box office draw. She was responsible for all of the Underworld franchise's pulling power long after it ran out of steam and she seemed to survive even the most uninspiring of her movies.
It feels like something has changed now: she might still have an Underworld movie slated but her appeal has faded pretty badly and since 2012's unnecessary Total Recall remake, she's made only one vaguely recognisable movie in Absolutely Anything. And that was terrible too.
She's followed up her recent non-registering work with one of the worst horror films released in what otherwise feels like a strong year for the genre. It centres on a room in which disabled children were historically kept out of sight, which is now haunted by one of their ghosts, terrorising Beckinsale's grieving mother who just lost her daughter. Do not expect levity...
...Or anything redeeming at all really. It's bland, unscary and troubling to watch, and it should be no shock it failed to make back even a fifth of its budget.
