After his latest attempt to revive his career as a chef is sabotaged by a disgruntled ex employee, Adam Jones (Bradley Cooper) considers jumping off a bridge, but instead gets wasted and shows up at the restaurant of his chief rival, Reece (Matthew Rhys). After being loud and obnoxious, he grabs a plastic food bag and pulls it over his head in what seems to be an attempt to suffocate himself. Reece then struggles with him, attempting to rip it off and eventually succeeding, as Adam keeps pleading, "Let me do it!" The scene's meant to be this super-serious depiction of our protagonist hitting rock-bottom, but honestly, it's more unintentionally funny than anything; the visual of Cooper's face squeezed into the bag and his blatant overacting just kills the whole thing dead.
