20 WTF Moments From Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation

4. Face Masks Make A Return

Face masks barely made an appearance at all in Ghost Protocol, after the face-printer broke down and they had to resort to more desperate methods. Rogue Nation pulls a similar fake-out by floating the possibility of Benji wearing a face mask to enter the Moroccan computer facility, but the idea is poo-pooed when they realise how quickly he'd be caught by state of the art, body language-detecting cameras. The masks do show up at the very end in one admittedly pretty clever "gotcha" moment, though. When the Prime Minister is talking to Atlee (Simon McBurney), the creator of Syndicate, Atlee tranquilises the PM much to Hunley's astonishment, before tearing his face mask off and revealing himself to be Hunt after all. It's one of the movie's few genuinely surprising moments, and a welcome recall of a classic series trope without going too overboard with it (as M:I2 certainly did).
