Absolute insanity.

Could anyone have ever imagined that 2002's moderately successful Resident Evil movie would've spawned a six-movie franchise over a 15-year period, with the release of Resident Evil: The Final Chapter sure to nudge its total box office receipts far over the $1 billion mark?

It's a terrific achievement considering the generally doomed nature of most video game movies, and while they've never been hits with critics or even some quarters of the fanbase, they are at least watchable in all of their peculiarity.

As far as effects-heavy blockbusters go, the Resident Evil franchise is all about a perfectly-cast Milla Jovovich commanding the screen and pulling the viewer through some bats*** crazy plots and set-pieces, even as you sometimes have to actively remind yourself that this is a Resident Evil movie you're watching.

From the awesome, to the stupid, to the stupidly awesome, here are 20 WTF moments from the Resident Evil movie franchise...

20. The Red Queen (Resident Evil)

One of the weirdest additions to the lore of the movies is the Red Queen, the A.I. that controls The Hive and initially kills everyone inside when the T-virus is detected.

It's not long before Alice (Milla Jovovich) and company meet the Red Queen, a red holographic impression of a child (modeled after Umbrella scientist Dr. Ashford's [Jared Harris] daughter), who creepily tells the gang, "You're all going to die down here" and basically impedes their attempts to escape.

She also re-appears in the fifth movie, Retribution, having basically become a homicidal entity, attempting to wipe humanity off the face of the Earth.

In honesty she's probably one of the movie franchise's more interesting creations, if undeniably goofy as Hell.
