In an age where most one-sheets for blockbuster movies are based around the same basic template (yes, 'floating heads' and 'main characters with their backs turned', I'm talking to you) it was refreshing to see Wolverine's second solo outing offer something different in the poster department. Although several of the theatrical posters fell into generic 'main character in heroic pose' territory, this minimalist artwork conveyed both the iconic character and the movie's Eastern influence in striking fashion. A poster you'd gladly frame on the wall, I'm sure you'll agree. Runner-Up: Gravity
Genius in its simplicity, the poster markets itself by casual audiences by having the names of the two A-list stars in HUGE letters at either side and demonstrates the basic plot of the film by showing an astronaut hurtling through the blackness of space, with only an ominous tagline (Don't Let Go) for company. I know I said I would avoid all of the major awards contenders in this article, but if there's any category in which I can get a little leeway it's the posters, right? Stunning artwork for a stunning movie.
I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
