20 Recent Box Office Flops Everyone Saw Coming

There might've been a version of a Hugh Jackman-starring Robin Hood film that posted gangbusters box office numbers, but it's also fair to say that general audiences are pretty much Robin Hood-ed out with how oversaturated the property has been on both big and small screens in recent years.

And even though The Death of Robin Hood was intriguingly written and directed by rising filmmaker Michael Sarnoski (Pig, A Quiet Place: Day One), a dreary, A24-produced gritty Old Man Robin Hood film just wasn't what general audiences were interested in.

And so, even with its mere $20 million budget, Sarnoski's film grossed just $7 million worldwide, making it one of the year's biggest flops in terms of budget-to-profit.

It didn't help that critical reviews were wildly mixed while audience ratings were outright hostile, ensuring that even the die-hard cinephile set couldn't help nudge it into the black.
