20 Recent Movie Rumours That Were Total BULL
1. It Will Feature The Original Ending - The Running Man
The Rumour:
With Edgar Wright promising that his take on The Running Man would be a far more faithful adaptation of Stephen King's novel than the 1987 Arnold Schwarzenegger-starring movie, some considered whether Wright might dare pull off the book's infamously bleak ending.
In the climax of the novel, protagonist Ben Richards learns that his family are dead and performs a kamikaze attack in revenge, flying a plane into the Games HQ, killing both himself and the titular game show's producer, Dan Killian.
The Truth:
Though it seemed like Wright might be going in that direction, he ends up pulling the rug out and swerving audiences, switching out this grim finale for one in which Richards (Glen Powell) ejects out of the plane before Killian (Josh Brolin) shoots it out of the sky.
Furthermore, Richards finds out his family are still alive, becomes the face of the revolution against the network, and then ends up shooting Killian dead.
Now in fairness, with the novel's ending having very clear parallels with 9/11, it's not remotely surprising that Hollywood didn't want to touch it.
Wright himself stated that it would've been "in incredibly poor taste" to evoke the attacks, and it certainly would've brought the movie all the wrong kinds of attention.
