14. James Woods Was Almost Han Solo
The genius level intellect and self-confessed geek (he's a gamer) doesn't take missed opportunities lightly: he notoriously fired an agent after discovering that he had missed out on the role of Mr Orange in Quentin Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs - which had been written with him in mind - because the agent had failed to even tell him about it. So he probably wasn't best impressed way back at the end of the 1970s when he unsuccessfully auditioned for cocky merc Han Solo - a casting that would have been wildly different, but probably no less snarky than Harrison Ford's performance.
13. PJ Soles Was Almost Princess Leia
The Star Wars auditions notoriously took place at the same time as those for Carrie, so inevitably some of the cast members who ended up in Brian De Palma's thriller also auditioned for key roles in Lucas' space opera. While it's not true that Sissy Spacek was initially cast as Leia, and Carrie Fisher as Carrie, but that they swapped when Fisher refused to do nudity (which she artfully refuted with "Not only do I love being nude, I would've been nude then... But anyway, it's total bullsh*t", PJ Soles did audition for the princess role. Ultimately, she wasn't successful, but got a part in Carrie, which was extended from an initial two week stint, and later confirmed that Steven Spielberg often visited the Carrie set at Brian De Palma's invitation that there were "a lot of cute girls down here." The director apparently then asked out the majority of the women on set, including Soles, and his future wife Amy Irving was the only one to accept.
