21 Batman Movies That Almost Happened

11. The Robin Spin-Off

In what can only be seen as yet another ill-conceived Warner Bros creative decision, when Batman & Robin was in production the studio's ideas for Batman included branching out in the wider Gotham universe and giving Robin his own movie. Unfortunately that ignored the fact that Chris O'Donnell, who had unceremoniously shunted Marlon Wayans out of the role - wasn't all that good as the Boy Wonder in the first place, and the character certainly didn't have the pull to lead his own film.

Now, if it had been Nightwing...

The news of this spin-off only came to light relatively recently, as O'Donnell - now a far more rounded actor - discussed his career with Access Hollywood, and the question of a stand-alone Robin film came up amongst some serious sycophancy:

€œThey were going to do one back in the day. And then [€˜Batman & Robin€™] was such a bomb, they were like, €˜Scrap that! That was the end of that."

It's hard to imagine anything other than a cheap attempt to cash in on younger audiences by Warners had this gone ahead, which would have done even more to besmirch the good name of Robin, who STILL hasn't recovered from what Schumacher did to him.
