21 Batman Movies That Almost Happened

More Adam West lunacy.

While he was scratching a living out of touring the world as a travelling Batman for hire at conventions, West had still not give up on his dream to return to the cowl on screens, but by the late '80s, the Burton film was in production and he had to change track slightly, resulting in another beautifully odd pitch:

"At another point I went to DC Comics and tried to sell them on the idea of a big Broadway play called A Night In Wayne Manor, which could've been a musical. But by then no one would touch Batman. The movie was in the works."

Of course Batman the stage show would become a thing - if a short-lived thing - and there was a Batman The Musical in development around 2000 with Jim Steinman attached, and Tim Burton reportedly circling directing duties (though he claimed he wasn't aware), including a song called The Joker Song (Where Does He Get All Those Wonderful Toys?) That was ultimately binned at 70% completion, but West's seemingly didn't even get beyond the pitch stage.

The actor might suggest it was because of the presence of the film in production, but it's more likely that it was because his pitch (and title) suggested that there'd be limited scope to even include Batman, or Gotham - a fairly sizeable oversight.
