The film starts in stupid earnest with a scene depicting a girl recklessly driving her car along a mountain road. The filmmakers pull a few bait and switches, showing her almost-but-not-quite cause an accident by first grabbing a bottle of water from the back seat while driving, then texting at wheel. By the time that falling rocks force her car over the edge, the audience have been conditioned to think she deserves to die, which is uncomfortable. Then, as she plummets to her doom, turns out she's driving the most indestructible car in North America. She flips, smashes into rocks, free-falls dozen of feet, and yet both her and the car survive. Yet we're supposed to worry for her safety and hope The Rock rescues her? Let her fall, she'll be fine, that car's American-made.
