The Line: "Precious! Precious! Precious!" How He Dies: Having furiously battled Frodo at the very last step of his incredible journey, Gollum dies clutching blindly to his precious, triumphant and apparently unflinching as his body disintegrates in the fires of Mount Doom. Despite his complex, stuttering arc, Gollum's final moment is the grim pay-off to his harrowing life, as well as offering a parallel for exactly where Frodo's life would have gone had his obsession with the One Ring come to full fruition as it almost does, and it is very fitting that the Ring's most hopeless victim should crown both his and its last moment with a haunting refrain of its pull.
