'24' Movie Delayed Yet Again?

Keifer Sutherland says the May start date is in doubt, blaming his hectic schedule on 'Touch'.

Over the last few weeks things were looking promising for the '24' movie. A screenplay was turned in by writer Mark Bomback (Live Free or Die Hard, Unstoppable) that was praised by the studio and the producers, a director shortlist was being drawn up and an April start date was looking likely. Unfortunately now all of this has changed and series star Kiefer Sutherland has revealed that he€™s become frustrated with all the delays and isn€™t holding his breath for that late spring start, blaming his hectic work schedule on his new Fox TV show 'Touch' for the hold up. . Whilst promoting his return to television screens in €™Touch€™, Sutherland had this to say in regards Jack Bauer€™s silver screen debut: "We have a script that€™s fantastic. The difficulty right now is that the schedule for Touch is really demanding. We finish in the end of April, I think at one point it was supposed to be a little earlier than that. And then we would start up (on the movie) quite quickly. So it€™s trying to find the time in the middle to make the film. I was probably more optimistic about starting in May a couple weeks ago than I am right now." Earlier in the week however a much more optimistic Sutherland hinted at the plot of the movie, which would take place only few short months after the events of the series finale, to TV Guide. "If I had to do the poster, I€™d say "For eight days Jack Bauer had to save the country. Today, Jack Bauer has to save himself". His years of service created a lot of enemies and he€™s estranged from the U.S, he€™s been hiding a while. Jack is in a kind of purgatory and he€™s running as opposed to chasing which is a huge shift." In the same interview when asked whether any of the familiar faces like Chloe or Kim will appear in the movie Sutherland answered: "It€™s mostly Jack but he does network out to some of his old team." It€™s a pity that the movie has been delayed again but then again I€™d rather see them take their time with this and do it right than rush the final product and give us a sub par movie that doesn€™t live up to the legacy of the groundbreaking series. It will be interesting to see how Touch fares in the ratings when it airs in the States on March 22nd. If the show is a massive success it means that it may be a few years until we see Jack back in action. .
