24 Predictions For This Oscar Season's Rotten Tomatoes Scores

14. In The Heart Of The Sea (74%)

Predicted Critical Consensus: "An impressive technical achievement that's bolstered by Chris Hemsworth's steely lead performance, In the Heart of the Sea captures the essence of Nathaniel Philbrick's source material." Ron Howard is ridiculously hit and miss as a director: one minute he's making a Best Picture winner like A Beautiful Mind (75%), and the next it's an effortless romantic dud like The Dilemma (24%). However, Howard is working from prestigious material here, what with Philbrick's 2000 novel winning the National Book Award for Nonfiction, so if Charles Leavitt's (Blood Diamond and...Seventh Son) adaptation is on point, then this one's an easy victory. It'll have its detractors simply because of the visual effects bombast and the fact that the PG-13 rating will prevent if from going into visceral detail about all the cannibalism that took place, but this looks like another rock solid effort from Howard from top to bottom.
