The absence of A-list directors lining up to tackle the Hollywood adaptation of Akira perhaps goes some way to explaining Warner Bros's inwillingness to commit the necessary budget. The same can't be said for the Halo movie, which has had such heavyweights as Peter Jackson, Guillermo del Toro and Neill Blomkamp all attached to the project at various stages.
Ever wondered what it would look like on the big screen to see Master Chief fighting his way through hordes of the Covenant? These concept paintings by Kasra Farahani (responsible for the beautifully detailed BioShock concept art) may be the closest fans will get to the real deal for some time. Despite the fact that Bungie struck a deal with 20th Century Fox as far back as 2004, the Halo movie has since suffered countless setbacks and delays, with release dates announced only to be withdrawn before a single frame of footage has been shot. With the Jackson/Blomkamp feature film is dead in the water and no signs of anyone else picking up the helm, there's little hope for the prospects of the Halo feature film going into production any time soon. But things aren't all doom and gloom when it comes to live-action Halo - Steven Spielberg has been linked to a Halo TV series, promising a welcome addition to the Halo canon including Forward Unto Dawn and the Ridley Scott-produced Nightfall. The best news? If rumours are to be believed, the pilot will be directed by none other than Neill Blomkamp. Which of these movies do you wish was made most?
