25 Astonishingly Dumb 21st Century Film Oscar Wins

Beat (Sound Awards): Black Panther, First Man, A Quiet Place, Roma and A Star is Born.

Beat (Editing): Black Klansman, The Favourite, Green Book and Vice.

Should've Won: First Man for the sound awards and Black Klansman for Best Editing.

The deeply flawed Bohemian Rhapsody over-performed at the Oscars and ended up winning four gongs: Best Actor (Rami Malek), Best Editing and both of the Best Sound awards. Malek's win was fine, since it was a great performance and he was in a fairly soft Best Actor field, but the other three? Like, for real?

The editing, as was broken down in a YouTube video essay, was terrible in this movie (something the film's editor has openly agreed with) so this is frankly one of the most ridiculous Oscar wins in any category in recent memory. In a category where not a single film deserved to be there, voters still somehow picked the worst of the five.

As for the sound, just because a film is about music that doesn't automatically mean it deserves to win the sound Oscar. There were plenty of issues in this department, especially since the film failed to sync up Mercury's vocals with Malek's mouth. This really should've gone to First Man's absolutely extraordinary sound work.

As for the editing, as already said not a single nominated film deserved to be there but Black Klansman was the best of the bunch and therefore should've won.
