25 Awesome Star Wars Facts You Need To Know

21. Star Wars Was So Successful, Studios Made Less Films

Bizarre, but true. Normally 20th Century Fox would release 20 films per year, but with the long-standing box office success of A New Hope in 1977, the studio only made 7 new films for 1978. Naturally, they€™ve picked up the pace since. It was the second film to cross the $100 million barrier after Jaws and remains to this day the oldest film in the unadjusted top 50 highest grossing films. Re-releases in 1978, 1979, 1981, 1982 and a particularly successful release in 1997 certainly help.

20. Lucas Directed With Just Three Words

Surprise, Lucas is a limited director. It€™s not like that held back A New Hope anyway; he was more interested in directing the camera, much to Director of Photography Gilbert Taylor€™s chagrin. He struggled to communicate with the cast, with his only comments after takes would be to either do it again €œfaster€ or €œmore intense,€ and he€™d often only do 3 takes. During the making of A New Hope, he temporarily lost his voice and the crew made him two boards with those words written on them so he could continue directing. He probably should€™ve used them more often for the prequels. However, the cast still did like the guy, and while Lucas was stressed and exhausted with the production, they tried their best to make him smile.
