25 Best British Films Of The Last Decade

14. Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows: Part II

I was never a massive fan of the Harry Potter movies, but I have to give director David Yates real credit here: he made of the finale everything fans and non-fans alike could have wanted. If Part I of The Deathly Hallows seemed like slow-moving filler, Part II was all about the payoff, for almost every minute of this movie is about tying everything together and heading to that finale between Harry and Voldemort. It's easily the darkest of the 8 movies, and as such moves away from the sometimes cheesy self-seriousness with which the earlier, goofier installments regarded themselves. Performances across the board are splendid, and all aspects of the production are outstanding, to the point that many expected the film to garner a Best Picture nomination at the Oscars (which didn't happen in the end). Nevertheless, as a highly-anticipated capper to an immensely popular series, I can't really see how Yates could have done any better.
