25 Best Vampire Movies Ever Made

14. Near Dark

Releasing the same year as The Lost Boys, Kathryn Bigelow’s second feature Near Dark is a wholly unique and utterly insane vampire western set in Midwestern America.

After Caleb (Adrian Pasdar) is bitten by a vampire drifter (Jenny Wright) and taken in by her family of travelling bloodsucking rebels, he’s forced to go along on their murderous insanity while searching for a means to escape and save his own family in the process.

A criminally underrated gem that flopped at the Box Office despite being received well by critics, Near Dark has thankfully found a permanent place with cult audiences. And though it’s miles away from the typical monster movie you’d expect from a vampire flick, the film is nevertheless a wild, euphoric ride that’s made all the better by Bill Paxton’s wonderfully over-the-top and frightening performance as the psychotic Severene.
