Here is where it all began for zombies as we know them today, George A. Romero wasn’t the first to bring zombies to the big screen, but he did indeed perfect the genre with his original trilogy. Set just as everything was going to hell, this is a simple tale of survival as the dead rise and the apocalypse consumes the earth.

Highly unusual for the time, Night of the Living Dead featured a black man in the leading role. Which he has gone on the record saying that this wasn’t him making some sort of statement, rather he just cast the best people for the roles - regardless of that, it was still ahead of its time there.

Among that Romero’s directorial debut zombie film features a female lead, children dying and much more that made it a stand out progressive, but still horrifying picture for its time. It later became the highest grossing horror film of its time too.

It is undeniable that this will forever go down as a classic. Surely is why zombie movies are still being made to this day and most of it can all be traced back to one man who just wanted to make a scary film. Now if he had just filled out the correct paperwork and retained the copyright, this might’ve been a different story.
