19. The Pointless Helicopter Crash Subplot - Fifty Shades Darker

And the award for most superfluous subplot in an already wildly superfluous movie goes to the helicopter crash in Fifty Shades Darker.

Because the movie apparently wasn't long enough already, Christian Grey's (Jamie Dornan) helicopter randomly crashes in the wilderness late in the film, causing his lover Ana (Dakota Johnson) and Christian's family to gather in the hopes of him turning up alive.

It's ultimately all for nothing, though, as Christian resurfaces with a few minor scratches about two minutes later, completely undercutting any scrap of suspense the scene might've had, and making one wonder why they shoved it in there at all.

Were the filmmakers given more money than they asked for and they just decided to blow it on a totally unneccessary CGI sequence for the hell of it? Seems so.
