25 Definitively Best Movies EVER (According To Critics AND Fans)

1. The Godfather (1972)

Al Pacino The Godfather
Paramount Pictures

Score: 96

And there you have it: the singlest greatest film of all time according to all of the most used metrics on the Internet. Francis Ford Coppola's portrait of one young man's irresistible entanglement - through his own blood and circumstances - with the criminal underworld of America.

He may not have been wanted in the lead, but The Godfather is all about the performance of Al Pacino (as much as the supporting cast are brilliant). And though his performance works best as a triptych across the entire trilogy, there's something truly magical in how he handles Michael Corleone - particularly as he wrestles with his obligations.

The Godfather is legitimately one of the landmark films of our time (or any time) and the fact that it's now close to 50 years old without losing any of its universal appeal to fans or critics speaks loudly of its quality.

Rotten Tomatoes: 98 Audience: 98 IMDB: 92 Letterboxd: 91 Metascore: 100
