25 DVD Easter Eggs You Need To See Before You Die

7. Spider-Man's Lost X-Men Cameo

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6N6H9CRftDU Fanboys have been clamouring for a crossover between two of Marvel's most famous characters in cinema for years, only to be told it can not and will not ever happen. The rights to the X-Men lie with 20th Century Fox, Spider-Man's safely ensconced in Sony's web, and neither studio looks likely to be relinquishing the rights any time soon. Hence, no crossovers. Although they did try and do a short cameo appearance for Wolverine in the first of the Tobey Maguire Spidey films - Hugh Jackman even showed up on set, during the parade scene - they realised they didn't have his proper costume, and it never happened. The closest we'll probably get is this blooper from the filming of the first X-Men film, which wasn't so much a serious attempt to make cinematic superhero universes collide as it was a prank on the movie's cast. Whilst filming a scene in the base of the Statue of Liberty Halle Berry, Famke Janssen and James Marsters are joined by a guy in a very familiar red spandex onesie...and when they notice him, collapse into hysterics. It's a fun prank that got included as a hidden extra on the X-Men DVD, so presumably Sony's lawyers couldn't find it. But you will. How to find it: Select "Theatrical Trailers" in the special features, then navigate left to select the flower.

6. The Incredibles, But With Sock Puppets

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EsmU5ihJVyc Oh yeah, remember when we said those Pixar guys had way too much time on their hands? And Brad Bird especially? Here is further proof that the reason their films take so long to make isn't because of the rigorous process of rendering and animating luscious 3D cartoon worlds, but because they're always away from their desks, mucking about. Bird's first film with the studio, the superhero-family-in-witness-protection adventure comedy The Incredibles, is for many film fans their favourite Pixar movie to date. And why not? It's a rollicking romp through comic book tropes and heartwarming family drama, with a few laughs thrown in for good measure. If you haven't the time to sit down to the full 115 minute feature, however, Bird and co have got you covered - because they filmed an entire new version of The Incredibles that tells the complete story in a fraction of the time, only with the wonderful animation replaced with sock puppets. And the voice acting talent is perhaps not as glittering as the actual film. Introduced as a failsafe, back up plan in case the film wasn't finished in time for release, the sock puppet Incredibles has the charm of one of Be Kind Rewind's low budget "sweded" remakes, if not the emotional heft of the actual movie. It's waiting there, somewhere on the DVD, for you to find it. How to find it: On the second disc sit on the set up page until it runs through its animation until an omnidroid appears, then quickly select it.
