25 DVD Easter Eggs You Need To See Before You Die

19. Mallrats' Kevin Smith Thinks You Should Spent Your Time Better

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1APXxlEIpw Pretty rich from a guy who spends more time smoking weed and writing totally TMI tweets about his and his wife's sex life than actually making films these days, filthy comedy director and fanboy Kevin Smith nonetheless will chew you out if you go snooping for easter eggs on the DVD to his underrated second film Mallrats. If the madcap story of Jason Lee and Jeremy London's remarkably interesting day at the shopping centre (ably supported by Jay and Silent Bob, of course) isn't enough for you, then you should get a few chuckles out of this little clip. Included on both editions of the DVD, this easter egg sees Smith sitting in the comic store he owns in New Jersey, chastising you for sitting around looking for easter eggs when you could be outside, enjoying the world "sniffing dogs". It's a cute little extra, and got an update for the 10th Anniversary Extended Edition of Mallrats a few years later with a scene filmed on the set of Dogma where he, Jason Mewes, Jason Lee, Mooby and the Golgothan again make fun of your spare time and blatantly shill for the comic book store and its website. How to find it: Head to the deleted scenes section of the special features, and navigate right to select the robot's glowing eyes.

18. Wreck It Ralph Explained By Chris Hardwick

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A0_n4-2HElE Once upon a time Chris Hardwick was nothing more than a cultural curio, a competent stand up who had chosen the route of light entertainment and was principally remembered for hosting terrible mid-nineties MTV dating show Singled Out, or for being a talking head on those I Love The 90s programmes on VH1. Thanks to a friendship with Wil Wheaton, his immensely successful Nerdist podcast network and now his Twitter-based panel show @midnight, he ascended to the status of nerd royalty, a man equally at home in fronting primetime comedy shows as playing Dungeons & Dragons or talking about comic books. So who better to help navigate your way through the myriad callbacks and shoutouts to retro video games in Wreck-It Ralph, the sugar-fuelled nostalgia fest that Disney somehow managed to package into a palatable kids film last year? We're pretty big geeks ourselves at WhatCulture Towers, and whilst we recognised the likes of Q*bert and Street Fighter's Zangief, we're willing to be there's a dozen more 8-bit characters whose appearance in the film we were totally unaware of. Disney made a similar bet, and it paid off in the form of easter eggs where Hardwick will pop up and explain some of the hidden jokes and references that populate basically every frame of Wreck-It Ralph. Whilst watching the film he can appear at any moment, if you know where to look, alongside fake commercials for the games created for the film, alternate and deleted scenes/ How to find it: On the blu-ray, pause at any time for 5 seconds and wait for the "Intermission" to start.
