25 Incredibly Well-Made Horror Films Directed By Women
17. Rachel Talalay - Ghost In The Machine (1993)
Rachel Talalay's Ghost In The Machine, commonly mistaken for a mediocre movie, is in fact a so-bad-its-great masterpiece. The film follows Karl Hochman (aka "The Address-Book Killer"), a technician in a computer shop who obtains the names of his victims from stolen address-books. Back in the early '90s when the internet was still in its infancy and virtual reality was supposed to be the next big thing, films like this, Virtuosity and The Lawnmower Man were being hurled into the populace. Virtual reality was touted as something that was going to change the way everybody in the world lives. Ironically, all that virtual reality hype turned out to be a fad based around a fad that never really became a reality. At least, not yet (shout-out to Oculus Rift). There are plenty of hilarious moments in this film that will force you to enjoy it, such as a scene where the killer manipulates a bunch of household appliances via the internet. How does that work, exactly? Who knows. It's an extremely silly movie, but it's still better than Johnny Depp in Transcendence.
