19. Aunt Spiker & Aunt Sponge (James and the Giant Peach)
These two characters are one in the same. Though created by author Roald Dahl, Burton took great artistic license to make the twisted, dark aunts even scarier for children in the audience. Both Spiker and Sponge are hated because they emulate what happens to all of us when we are burdened with anothers responsibility without having been asked. Yes, a child is a beautiful thing, but the aunts are two people who never wanted or had their own. We hate them because we dont want to admit that they are who we are capable of becoming, which scares us.
18. Victor (The Corpse Bride)
Skinny, pale, weakling Victor spends most of his movies plot having to make a decision between what he should do and what he wants to do. He cares so much about what others expect and perceive as the right thing to do that his own desires are lost in the shuffle. This happens to all of us at one point or another. Watching his journey inspired audiences everywhere to stand up and take a chance with the road less traveled.
17. Karl (Big Fish)
Another sidekick, Karl, the giant companion of protagonist Ed Bloom, has his own story complete with obstacles to overcome, societys cold shoulder, and embracing who he was born to be. Ed Bloom only adds to Karls journey (just as Karl adds to Eds) by showing him the beauty of humanity that he thought was lost long ago on people who were different, like him.
