25 Greatest Warner Bros Movies Ever
12. Zodiac
Strictly speaking, Zodiac is a co-production movie (with Paramount and Phoenix Pictures), but it's rare to find any more modern films that don't follow that relationship.
Like Se7en - another film that is now classed as a Warner Bros film after the acquisition of New Line Cinema (it's cheating to include it on those grounds) - Zodiac is a tense, slow-burning build that gnaws at you and burrows its way into your brain. It's slower and more deliberate, but it's held together by an incredibly compelling sense of dread and injustice and some great performances.
Jake Gyllenhaal's devolution from bright eyed journalist to consumed, border-line maniac is deliriously enticing, and there's a great edge to Robert Downey Jr's languid, charismatic performance that is equally beautiful to watch.
And best of all - thanks to the nature of the beast - it goes unsolved, leaving you with a strangely fitting lack of satisfaction that is as bold as it is challenging.
