25 Harry Potter Deaths Ranked By How Viciously They Ripped Your Heart Out

6. Severus Snape

So it's fair to say that people have conflicted emotions about Severus Snape: was he a hero or a villain, a traitor or the bravest man they ever knew? Well, neither... or both: he's a man capable of great love, but also jealousy, and can be both incredibly loyal and cruelly vindictive. So who knows, man? Some people love him, some hate him, but whichever side of the fence you personally fall on, you can't argue that his death wasn't one of the most poignant of the entire series. Voldemort kills him, not because he's angry at Snape or punishing him, but because it was the easiest path to the Elder Wand. As he lies dying, he wants to look into the eyes of the one person he ever actually cared about. Which is, you know, a little creepy, but still emotional. Then everyone is treated to the story of Snape's incredibly tragic life, and it's just awful, soul-crushing stuff.
