Stanley Kubrick's magnificent adaptation of Stephen King's novel finds Jack Nicholson in impeccable form as Jack Torrance, who takes a job as the winter custodian of the Overlook Hotel, where he and his family soon enough find themselves being terrorised by supernatural phenomena. Visually stunning, superbly acted across the board (yes, even Shelley Duvall) and unremittingly intense, Kubrick puts audiences through the wringer, and the results have endured ever since. Best Moment: It's gotta be the iconic "Here's Johnny!" moment, in which Torrance attempts to hack his family to pieces with an axe as they make their desperate escape.
Stay at home dad who spends as much time teaching his kids the merits of Martin Scorsese as possible (against the missus' wishes).
