Jaume Balagueró and Paco Plaza's 2007 Spanish horror proved that the found footage genre was far from dead, taking a relatively familiar viral infection scenario and ratcheting the tension up to 11, while abandoning most of the irritating cliches that make found footage films so insufferable. Plus, lead actress Manuela Velasco is a total babe (and wears a low-cut top throughout). Best Moment: The final 15 minutes, in which protagonist Angela (Velasco) comes face-to-face with the cause of the virus. Without spoiling it, you'll want a spare change of undies to hand. Sequels: Three sequels have been made to date: 2 was a strong follow-up, 3 was a bizarre shift to comedy (and also completely abandoned the plot of the previous films), while 4: Apocalypse, which returned to the characters from the first two films, has earned mostly negative reviews from the festival circuit. In addition, was remade in the English language as Quarantine, an effective enough if mostly pointless shot-for-shot remake, which strangely enough led to a totally unrelated straight-to-video sequel, Quarantine: Terminal, which nevertheless earned relatively decent reviews.
