22. There Was A Political Spin-Off Planned At One Point
One of the most lauded aspects of The Wire is its interweaving of narratives from many different aspects of Baltimore life, and the political element is one of its strongest. Yet the original plan, at the end of the politics driven season three, was to grant mayor-to-be Tommy Carcetti his own series: The Hall. The Hall would follow the political story of season three to its conclusion, exploring the politics of Baltimore and the career of Carcetti through his mayoral campaign and subsequent success. However, the low viewing figures of The Wire led HBO executives to (literally) laugh at the implausibility of David Simons proposal, resulting in the continuing political focus of The Wires final two seasons.
