Inside Out director Pete Docter has proven he's got skill with telling emotionally resonant, funny stories, but has he got soul?
That's what this 2020 release looks set to answer. The first Pixar movie to feature a protagonist of colour, Soul sees a middle school teacher played by Baby Driver's Jamie Foxx embark on a quest to get back his soul and play some smooth jazz on the way.
Co-starring an ensemble cast including Blindspotting's Daveed Diggs, Mean Girls' Tina Fey, and Questlove (yes, the drummer of famous hip hop outfit The Roots), this colourful and inventive adventure looks set to breathe much needed life into Pixar's stable.
It's an ambitious and existential story, sure, but Pixar has managed to impress with them before, so here's hoping.
