25 Movies That Would Have Been BETTER As TV Shows

With the emergence of Disney+ in 2019 came an unprecedented opportunity for the House of Ideas, along with everyone under that particular banner, to venture into storytelling that didn't necessarily need, warrant, or fit a theatrical release.

Spin-offs like Pixar's Dream Productions, Win or Lose, and Monsters at Work have been fun projects that didn't have the pressure to live up to the scrutiny and bottom-line expectations that come with Disney films. This is exactly where Lightyear should have sat.

Producing the in-universe film from which Andy's Buzz Lightyear toy was based was an intriguing prospect, but it confused audiences. Not casting Tim Allen as Buzz didn't help, as well as the timing of its release. However, even in spite of an array of mitigating factors, Lightyear always felt more like a novelty side project that fit on Disney+ than a blockbuster film.

There had already been four Toy Story movies at this point, and though there is a fifth on the way, revisiting the franchise on the big screen isn't something anyone needed. As a mini series, having Buzz being based on a TV show instead of a movie, it could have gone a lot further than a big budget release that no one was likely going to pay to see.
