Apart from Under Siege throwing the original plans for Die Hard 3 out the window, there were a few other issues that went on behind the scenes that delayed production on the sequel.

Following reported production troubles on Die Hard 2 and Predator 2, Fox decided to cease its working relationship with producer Joel Silver, who had been involved with both the first Die Hard sequel and the original, as had producer Larry Gordon. The two producers parted ways and proceeded to have a bit of a fight over Bruce Willis, who appeared in The Last Boy Scout in 1991 while Gordon was tapping the actor to appear in a different film.

Compounding problems further, Willis then had a falling out with Silver, which effectively ended his working relationship with both producers. This, combined with the aforementioned script troubles, meant it took five years for the third film to get made, with producer Andy Vajna replacing both producers after the fallout.
