25 Wonder Woman Easter Eggs & References You Must See

16. Doctor Poison's First Look

Dr Maru - or Doctor Poison - is taken straight out of the comics, though Elena Anaya's version is not a great deal like the version seen on the page. In the comics, as in the film, the character wore a mask, but it was more like a costume, rather than something to hide her disfigurement (though she did use it to hide her gender).

There is a small nod to Poison's original appearance in the comics though: the green lab coat Anaya wears references how she looked in the comics, and so too do the over-sized goggles she wears on top of her head.

Maru is called Doctor Poison throughout the film as a nickname given to her by troops, which puts her ahead of Wonder Woman, who is never actually called that.
