At one point, Steve Trevor gives out copies of Edgar Rice Burroughs novels to other characters, offering a symbolic nod to Wonder Woman's spirit as a character.

Burroughs wrote Tarzan and John Carter Of Mars - both of which were based on the arc of fish out of water characters having to adjust to strange new worlds alien to their homelands.

Incidentally, the John Carter movie deserves to be watched again. It's nowhere near as terrible as some made out.
