27 Things You Didn't Know About Reservoir Dogs
17. The Only Female Speaking Role Is In A Deleted Scene
One of the most distinctive and quibbled-about aspects of the movie is the lack of even a single spoken role for a female character.
Tarantino said of this decision, "There were no female characters in Reservoir Dogs because the movie took place over the course of an hour in this warehouse after this robbery. These guys aren't going to bring their girlfriends to the robbery. Joe didn't happen to hire any women."
But that wasn't quite the original plan. Tarantino did film a scene which he cut from the final print, where Nina Siemaszko plays McKlusky, a character who meets with Mr. Orange to give him the low-down on the men he'll be doing undercover with.
Granted, the scene is extremely exposition-heavy and probably warranted being cut for that reason - if not for pacing - but it's a shame that the only significant female role in the movie had to get the chop.
Still, given the excellent representation Tarantino has given women in his subsequent movies, you can't really hold it against him.
