Prior to the movie being officially unveiled, Tom Six kept teasing that an Oscar-nominated actor had been roped into the cast, causing rampant speculation about who might be showing up. Ultimately, it wasn't someone as prolific and well-known as, say, Gary Oldman, but a talented actor nevertheless, in Eric Roberts, who was nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar in 1986 for the classic action adventure flick Runaway Train. Roberts' career may not have gone from strength to strength over the years, mostly starring in straight-to-video fare these days, though many might remember him as smug mobster Salvatore Maroni in The Dark Knight. Here he plays Governor Hughes, a left-wing politician labelled "communist" by Boss, who disapproves of the prison's dictatorial methods and abusive punishments.
