3 Reasons Why Man Of Steel Is Its Own Kryptonite

2. There€™s A Lot Of Fighting Going On But I€™m The Only One Who€™s Getting Tired

Man of Steel By the time the film has gone through the umpteenth iteration of the origin story and finally kicked into gear we€™re treated to some pretty spectacular action and fight sequences with Superman and his Kryptonian nemeses shooting off like genuine rockets and punching each other with enough force to be thrust into the next three zip codes. And then the film delivers some more fight scenes. And some more, and some more, and€ well you get the picture. It€™s a scale of superhero carnage that€™s off the charts with buildings being destroyed left and right and although we never see one civilian death in any of this, it€™s hard to avoid flashing back to the last time Americans saw giant skyscrapers systematically crumble to the ground. While I suppose mental call-backs to 9/11 can€™t be avoided when there€™s this much destruction of prime real estate, it€™s also a bad sign when those scenes€™ closest cinematic relatives are Michael Bay€™s Transformers films or one of the drawn-out fights between Neo and Agent Smith in the last Matrix film. There were great effects in those films too, but, in the end, they were exhausting, not exhilarating.
